30 minute Colorado painting (16 x 20)

I started not to post this painting from my latest trip to CO and NM. But oddly enough (at least to me) others seem to respond to the simplicity of this quick 30 min. plein air painting. I could go back and do a little more work, but decided I would leave it as is - a reminder to me that working fast on a larger canvas is a sure fire way to get you to loosen up your brushwork.

This has been one of my goals for some time and this latest trip I feel I came closer to my desire for freer brush strokes and simplifying the canvas - not so much detail. My natural tendency is to over work a painting so I'm practicing grabbing the brush out of my own hand and trying to leave well enough alone. It ain't easy! :-)

This painting was painted with your gut feelings. It is beautiful.

Thanks Suzanne! When I start getting too tight in the future I think I'll just pull out the old timer!

Nice painting, Susan. I was surprised to see the size after reading it was done in 30 minutes. Your certainly captured all the necessary stuff and don't need any more.

Thank you Lee! I'm realizing less is more sometimes, but still trying to find just the right amount of detail - guess we are all in process. BTW I'm envious of your location in NM - you've painted at several locations that are on my "list" like Chaco Canyon and Canyon de Chelly - great work!
